Costa del Sol

Map of the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol is a coastal region in the Province of Malaga which is part of the Andalusian Autonomous Community of Spain. It's one of the most important tourist areas in the region and tourism is also the main industry and source of economy. Malaga province is surrounded by Granada to the East and Cadiz to the West and the Mediterranean coastline stretches along over 150 kms.

The tourist boom started in the 1950's and since then it has become a favourite international destination mainly for British tourists but also Scandinavians, Germans and French. The main consequence of this has been the demographic and economical growth along the coast.

There are a large number of hotels, both coastal and rural, and multiple alternatives for leisure activities: there are 70 golf courses, 3 zoos, funfairs, water parks, etc.
